How Do Air Cleaners Work?

Low indoor air quality poses a major health threat in the U.S. today, especially since Americans spend approximately 85% of their time indoors. One of the best solutions for improved indoor air quality is to ventilate a house with open windows and doors for a few hours. However, this is not always an option, especially in a city like Scottsdale, which often experiences blistering hot days. Letting this much heat enter your home also puts tremendous strain on your AC.

However, there are methods to improve your indoor air quality with upgrades to your HVAC system. These devices filter the air passing from your air conditioner (and heater) to remove the contaminants that may enter it, such as dirt, dust, pollen, dander, bacteria, and residue from construction. Mechanical Filters

The basic air cleaner catches particles in a filter. The most common type of filter is the HEPA filter, which is composed of a mat of randomly arranged fibers, usually made of fiberglass strands between 0.5 and 2.0 microns. These filters do not work like strainers however, where some particles are stopped while others are allowed to flow through. The HEPA filters instead catch even smaller particles, down to 0.3 microns, through a process where particles that pass within one radius of a fiber will adhere to it. Although HEPA filters can stop most physical particles from passing through, they are not effective at stopping gas and odor molecules.

Electronic Filters

The next level up from mechanical filters are the electronic filters, which can catch particles down to 0.1 microns and can affect smoke, gas, and even bacteria that would otherwise escape a mechanical filter. Electronic filters work through static charges. The fibers of an electronic filter generate a strong static charge as air passes through them. This positively charges the particles in the air, and when those particles pass through a layer in the filter with negatively charged fibers, they are drawn toward them and trapped.

Gilbert is exactly what you want in a tech. He was patient in listening to what my perceived situation is with all the context I could provide while also doing a fresh analysis uninhibited. This allowed him to corrobote some aspects of what I knew and what other companies claimed but also correct some other aspects that were misinterpreted or incorrect altoge. Add in personability, reasonability, and hard work and I could be happier.

Goettl is not cheap, although their service visit is very inexpensive, their quotes are almost always considerably higher. The service from an employee like Gilbert, however, is the sole reason why I would even consider entertaining a higher cost.

I run an Airbnb with 5 rooms in my home, and my tankless water heater suddenly went out. In my case, this was an emergency, especially with the weather getting colder. Goettl ensured that a technician arrived within a few hours, and Juan Gil showed up in good spirits and ready to solve the puzzle.

Like most people, I typically search for the cheapest service I can find, and I end up having other plumbers come out to check out issues with my tankless water heater, who run their mouths, upsell parts (that don't seem to be causing the problem), and generally don't really know enough about tankless water heaters. This time, I decided to go with an experienced company with a good reputation, and I am glad that I did - Goettl's prices are very reasonable and worth the service they provide.

Juan, was very knowledgeable, patient, and persistent. Even better, he was careful and humble enough to acknowledge that he didn't know everything and checked with the manufacturer at every step. Juan spent a great deal of time helping me diagnose the problem (which always seems impossible to ascertain quickly with machines like tankless water heaters), and went above and beyond to ensure that my guests and I had hot water tonight.

Juan never got frustrated; he handled everything carefully and made sure to clean up after himself when he was done. If I can have Juan take care of all of my plumbing or AC issues in the future, I will. And if you're reading reviews to decide whether to call Goettl for your issue, I would encourage you to trust their service and experience. My experience with Juan was definitely memorable.

We now have hot water again. Can I get a "hell yeah"?

And since I have their membership, I was told there would be no trip charge Clayton Purvis was such an angel. He reached down and turned it off, and apparently I had not turned it around enough times I felt like an idiot and told him he can go back to the office and share with his coworkers what this old woman did. This was included in our membership with no extra charge. He and his partner also found the mystery leak in the guest bathroom toilet and replaced the guts and seals. The thing I liked the best was his advice about maintenance and how that little hole in the sink is a real drain that also needs flushing out by letting the sink fill up periodically. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

Installation day was when they said it would be. They scheduled the building permit, attended the inspection, and it was on time. Had a gas line in my home that needed repair. Goettl was quick to send a technician that night even though it was well past business hours. Chris came over and gave us a quote. He made sure we knew our payment options and thoroughly explained what the repair was going to be like and the steps we needed to take with the gas company.
