The Differences Between Mechanical and Electronic Air Cleaners
When you consider that indoor air can be 4-5 times more polluted than outdoor air, maintaining healthful indoor air can be a concern. Air cleaners improve your indoor air quality, making it both healthier and more comfortable. There are several types of air cleaners from which to choose, and there are important differences to note between mechanical and electronic air cleaners. How Do Air Cleaners Work?
The best way to outline the differences between air cleaners is to describe how they work. Let’s start with mechanical air filters.
Mechanical air filters are square-framed components with filter media secured into the frame. Filter media can be made of different types of materials, including fiberglass and paper. The media filters out particles, trapping them in the weave of the media. The amount and type of particles that a mechanical filter captures depend on the material used and how tightly the material is woven. The best way to assess a filter’s effectiveness is from its MERV rating, which rates on a scale of 1 to 20 how effective a particular filter is. Typical MERV ratings for home air cleaners are 5-12. Most mechanical filters fit into the space where your AC’s standard mechanical filter resides and require changing every 3 months. (NOTE: HEPA filters are also mechanical filters, but to be classified as a HEPA filter, strict guidelines need to be met).
Electronic air cleaners work differently. First, there are two types of electronic cleaners: ion generators and electronic precipitators. They both use electricity to charge particles, but go about it in different ways. An ion generator uses a small amount of electricity to disperse ions into the air. These ions attach to particles that, once charged, are attracted to the surfaces in your home (wall, floors, etc.). An electronic precipitator also charges particles, but does so by creating an ionization section into which it attracts particles to be charged. Once the particles are charged, they are captured by oppositely-charged metal plates.

Great review for Goettl Plumbing.We had an blockage in our sewer line.Tyler Leija was dispatched the same day, and found the blockage using a camera tool.He cleared the blockage temporarily.The actual fix would require digging up and replacing the bad area of pipe.Paulo "Adrian" Dado and his crew came out the next day with backhoe, dug up the area, and replaced the section of pipe.The next day, after inspection, Adrian and his crew filled in the hole and then cleaned up the area.This is a brief description. There was A LOT of work involved.Very professional work.

We were hearing hammering between the walls. Tyler came out to my home to perform an evaluation. After doing several tests he quickly found the issue. We discussed several options. I ultimately opted to have the problem fixed to avoid damage to other appliances. He completed the work in a timely manner.
Peter helped a lot with explaining the root cause of our AC unit not functioning as well as it should be, and explaining why he recommended the fix/parts that he did. Took plenty of time to troubleshoot what was actually going on as opposed to just treating the symptoms, and explained in an easy-to-understand way what he found and how to fix it. Our AC went down for the upstairs unit. We have a maintenance plan through another company but they do not provide 24/7 service. I called Goettl and I am so happy I did. 2.7.24Jay Cruz, technician, arrived on time today to service/check my ac/heating. Jay arrived timely and was friendly. Jay checked my inside unit, ceiling vents, etc and he made some recommendations. He was easy to talk to and very professional. He will be sending me an email with the recommendations and costs associated so that I can save the money to have these taken care of. I will say, no other technician has been as proficient as Jay.Yesterday, 2.6.24, I received a call from Betty. Betty was also very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. She listened to me and made recommendations and advice. By the end if the call, I felt like Betty was a friend.Thank you to Jay and Betty!Late one evening I was washing clothes. Daughter noticed water on floor under washer. I was so upset and worried about finding someone to fix the problem, whatever it was, and especially the cost. Goettl this the rescue! Namely, their employee/plumber, Chris! The next day, Chris came, found the clog in my pipes, and…voilà! We joined their $14.95 per month plan and that was all we paid for a job well done! Thank you!3.26.24Tyler Leija was great! He checked my drain pipe outside with a camera. Advised everything was clear. He checked my kitchen and master bathroom sinks and toilet. Tyler was friendly, but professional. Thank you.4.17.24Frank M arrived here on time. He was friendly and professional. He explained everything he was going to do today. He completed everything he mentioned. He provided suggestions of things that need or should be taken care of. Nothing urgent. He installed the water heater sensor in addition to other plumbing type things. He drained the water heater. He spoke to his supervisor, Terronne (sp?). Should received estimates for hvac and water heater. Thank you Frank! Great job!

Roy A. was a pleasure to work with. He thoroughly and expertly explained all of the issues with my system with pictures and videos. He was transparent about the remediation options available to me and patiently reviewed each option with me. The install team, Daniel and Roy, were equally as awesome. The water softener (which is outside) was ruined by the recent weather. Rudy and Chris were able to diagnose the problem and replaced the softener on same day. This was critical to avoid any plumbing problems in the house. We appreciate their professionalism and attention email to detail.
