Short Cycling Is a Serious Issue (for ACs and Heaters Alike!)
There are some HVAC problems that are bad news across the board. Short cycling is one of the most common issues that homeowners may encounter with their heating and/or air conditioning systems. It is also one of the most problematic. Not only does short cycling have a number of potential causes, but it can also negatively affect your equipment and your comfort in a number of ways. That is why it is important to understand what short cycling is, as well as the ways in which the problem may be resolved.
What Causes Short Cycling, and What Are the Solutions?
Short cycling is the name for the problem in which a heater or AC starts up, only to cycle off again too quickly. This will happen before a full cooling or heating cycle is completed. Now, this may not sound all that serious to you, but the fact is that it has a number of damaging results. Your system will suffer an immense amount of wear and tear as it starts and stops constantly. You should also note that these systems use the most energy when starting up, as opposed to running continually. That can drive up your energy costs, in addition to increasing the risk of needing repairs.
So what causes the problem? Well, you could have a malfunctioning thermostat that is sending the wrong message to your system regarding the temperature in your home. It’s also possible that you’ve got a bad run capacitor, so your compressor cannot keep your air conditioner running reliably. Even dirty air filters could be responsible, restricting airflow to the point that ice builds up on an evaporator coil, insulating it and leading to overheating at the compressor.
As you can see, there are a lot of potential causes of the problem. Those mentioned above can be resolved by trained professionals, along with others, such as refrigerant leaks. However, if your system is too large for your that too can lead to short cycling. In such an event, replacing the system with an appropriately sized one is really the only option.

Great review for Goettl Plumbing.We had an blockage in our sewer line.Tyler Leija was dispatched the same day, and found the blockage using a camera tool.He cleared the blockage temporarily.The actual fix would require digging up and replacing the bad area of pipe.Paulo "Adrian" Dado and his crew came out the next day with backhoe, dug up the area, and replaced the section of pipe.The next day, after inspection, Adrian and his crew filled in the hole and then cleaned up the area.This is a brief description. There was A LOT of work involved.Very professional work.

We were hearing hammering between the walls. Tyler came out to my home to perform an evaluation. After doing several tests he quickly found the issue. We discussed several options. I ultimately opted to have the problem fixed to avoid damage to other appliances. He completed the work in a timely manner.
Peter helped a lot with explaining the root cause of our AC unit not functioning as well as it should be, and explaining why he recommended the fix/parts that he did. Took plenty of time to troubleshoot what was actually going on as opposed to just treating the symptoms, and explained in an easy-to-understand way what he found and how to fix it. He also gave good advice about simple DIY maintenance we can do moving forward to keep the system healthy! Our AC went down for the upstairs unit. We have a maintenance plan through another company but they do not provide 24/7 service. I called Goettl and I am so happy I did. The water softener (which is outside) was ruined by the recent weather. Rudy and Chris were able to diagnose the problem and replaced the softener on same day. This was critical to avoid any plumbing problems in the house. We appreciate their professionalism and attention email to detail.

My technician Jorge (George) Gutierrez was out today performing the a/c system check. He did a fabulous job and identified significant issues and concerns for the longevity of my current 12 year old system. He was very knowledgeable and helpful on what my options are and in the end I’ll be getting a new system instead of worrying about the current system failing in our extremely hot temperatures. He was very respectful of my home and my dog was ecstatic to meet him.
Frank identified the need for new faucets in the master bath and discussed my preferences. The type of faucet being replaced is no longer available (mini wide spread) so he had to do some research to come up with a solution. Had to be ordered, not surprisingly, and we appreciate his conscientious performance.
