AC FAQ: Why Change the Air Filter?

Pop quiz time — what is the single best thing that you can do to keep your air conditioning system in great working condition? If you answered “schedule routine air conditioning maintenance,” then you are correct. Mostly, anyway. Yes, scheduling routine air conditioning maintenance in North Las Vegas, NV is absolutely vital in the quest for a truly great home cooling experience. That being said, you’d be overlooking a very important step if you thought that this was all that is required of you.

While the bulk of your air conditioning maintenance procedures must be completed by trained professionals, there is one specific task that you yourself should be completing regularly. That is changing your air filter as needed. Typically, this means doing so every 1-3 months — though many factors will influence the situation and regularity in your home. If you have any doubts about just how important changing your air filter really is, we hope that you’ll keep the following information in mind. 

How Big of a Difference Can It Really Make?

We get it. You’ve got a lot on your plate, and the fact of the matter is that changing your air filter just doesn’t sound like that big of a priority. After all, it isn’t like your air conditioner is broken down or anything, right? Well, we really need to stress the fact that, simple a step as it may be, changing your air filter really can have some pretty major benefits for you and your system — just as failing to change that air filter can have some pretty serious consequences.

  1. Enjoy better efficiency. It goes without saying that we run our air conditioners a lot in this part of the country. You are going to have to pay for your comfort when the heat of summer strikes, but you should not have to overpay. If you leave a dirty filter in your air conditioner, though, chances are that you are going to be doing just that. Increased airflow resistance will force the system to work harder than it should have to in cooling your home, and your energy bills will reflect that.
  2. Enjoy better comfort. When your air conditioner is struggling just to force cooled air throughout your home, it is not going to function at peak performance levels. That will leave your comfort to suffer. The areas furthest from the air handler may not cool down as much as those closer, and your air quality may drop off as well. Very clogged filters can create so much airflow resistance that it is easier to force air around the filter than through it.
  3. Enjoy better reliability. Your air conditioner should go through a full cooling cycle before shutting down. If your air conditioner has a very dirty air filter causing it to overheat, though, then your system is likely going to wind up short cycling. That means that it will start up, run only briefly, and then shut back down. This increased strain can compromise the system, and increase the risk of damages.

I had my furnace and a/c checked today by Geottl. So glad I did! With this service Geottl also looks at the vents in your home. My vents were filthy. My furnace wasn’t functioning at top efficiency. The reason was the vents. The accumulated dust gets pulled through the system leaving dirt in my heating coil. Lupe showed me the photos of vents and heat coil, explained the issues and remedies. I scheduled a cleaning of vents. Lupe also helped with financing. I recommend Geottl. Great service and friendly service people. I will definitely stay with Geottl.

Nov 05 2025: Seasonal maintanence checkup and this go around I got Adam. Not one bit less experienced. I was given heads up of his arrive. He came, performed his maintenence inside and out and at the end provide his assessment alone with photos. Goettl techs don't come in and leave in 15 minutes, they are through in what they do. Great job Adam.

Mar 25 2024: My service tech's name is Jacobi. He is a very knowledable individual. He mentioned he does maintenance and installation. I was due a routine maintenance but for this call my furance wasn't turning on. He diagnosed and explained it was the blower. Very pleased with his work.

It’s getting cooler and cooler now; pretty soon it’ll be time to turn on the heater in the house. Goettl has been amazing w/prices and top-notch work. The service technicians have been nothing but great. We had Mike H install a whole new water heater, pressure valve regulator, and new washer hoses. Initially, the visit was for a free full house plumbing check that comes free w/our membership, and we suspected our water heater was having issues so it was helpful to have Mike come out and check. He checked our water heater last, and, unfortunately, our suspicions were correct. Our water heater needed to be replaced b/c it was old. Mike explained to us the issues it was experiencing, and the too high pressure level our water was at. He made it clear the urgency needed in replacing the water heater and lowering the water pressure level, but he never made us feel pressured to make any decisions right then and there w/him, which we appreciated. However, we still decided in the moment to move forward w/Mike at Goettl b/c we had such a great experience w/Goettl HVAC during the summer, so we trusted him and his recommendations. Thankfully, Mike was able to tackle the biggest problem that same day and at that moment — the water pressure level. He made us feel like a priority and that our peace of mind, finances, and home mattered. We were able to get in just a couple of business days later for the whole water heater revamp. Day of water heater installation, Mike showed up on time, early, and completed the work in just a few hours. It was impressive. He left the work area clean, debris free, and his final work looks amazing. Mike was personable, professional, and made us feel like he genuinely cared about our home. 10/10 would recommend Mike H from Goettl. 10/10 would recommend Goettl in general — great company, knowledgeable service technicians, affordable prices, and amazing work.

We were having issues with our furnace not igniting and having the heat remain running. We contacted Goettl Air Conditioning and Plumbing for their service. Pablo, their technician, came to the house and ran several diagnostic tests to determine what was going on. He was persistent in finding out what was wrong and why the furnace would not stay running to give us heat. He made several trips to the house to continue to work on the furnace and solved the issue. Not only did he discover the gas valve was the problem, the new one installed was faulty as well. Goetll Air Conditioning has been exceptionally great to work with. Their staff and dispatch members worked with us to get out to the house each time in less than 24 hours and always kept us posted through texts and call backs, even on the weekends. I requested a plumbing drain inspection from Goettl. Service rep arrived introduced him self and went quickly to work. He was courteous and polite. He proceeded to inspect my plumbing and Drains. Shortly after he visited my hot water room he requested be to accompany him to observe there was a stream of water coming out of thr drain pan. He reviewed with me some of the items associated with my current installation that might be best updated and replaced. He gave me an estimate and we should. Hands and he proceeded to remove and replace my hot water heater. The job was completed and tested tan a timely manner and he left the area in a clean and organized manner. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

This is how a service/install company should work. Price was exactly as quoted and was very fair, comparing to multiple others. They never tried to add on extras like all the others did. Installation day was when they said it would be. They scheduled the building permit, attended the inspection, and it was on time. We have been Sadi club members for years. The service is excellent from the customer service representatives that answer the phone to the individual technicians that come out to your home. Two years ago we replaced our AC unit and went with a Goettl installation after years of having them maintain our older unit.
This past week our service technician was Andrew Morgan and he is such a friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled technician. He spent time making sure the job was done correctly and he explained it in terms that I could understand. We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. He was knowledgeable, kind, super patient with our very curious child, and did absolutely everything in his power to get our AC back on. Unfortunately the blower motor was toast. He got us set up with a window unit for the time being and. Fast forward to today, Wednesday, and Christian and Ian came to install a new blower motor for us. Both gentleman were wonderful! They kept us informed of the process and what to expect as they replaced the parts. Our house is already cooling back down and I have Christian and Ian to thank for that! They did inform us of a military discount, which was very helpful, and they insured the entire process was as streamlined as it could be. Jerry also noticed our water pressure was low after flushing toilet then trying to wash hands in bathroom sink which were so he suggested a new pressure regulator as we have had a new better water conditioning system installed. We now have the best water pressure even when using a shower and kitchen sink faucet at the same time. Also Jerry is a master plumber and we appreciate his knowledge and experience. Will definitely call Goettl again when a plumber is needed.
